My grandma makes beautiful things from shreds of nothing: - TopicsExpress

My grandma makes beautiful things from shreds of nothing: blueberry pies, glittering princess dresses, golden paintings of angels, pillow-people dolls, flower gardens with collected stone and seashell borders, nose-warmers, and Indian headdresses alike. She made me put my feet down in squishy lake bottoms. She threw clumps of seaweed in my face and laughed and pulled me through the waves. She never let me win a race ran around the house. She read me every single Raggedy Anne and Andy, Pippi Lockstocking, Mary Poppins, and Five Little Peppers book. She let me dig in the dirt with silver spoons. She built me a teepee in the front yard to play in. She put on Bruce Springsteen and Pavarotti records and told us to dance. She let us roller skate indoors. She made huge, fluffy pink “Valentine’s Day cakes” and let us stick them full of heart-shaped lollipops and gumdrops. She built us campfires on the front lawn. She pushed me in my stroller and pointed to the moon. When we had little in the way of real things, she made sure we had the magical and the fantastic and the beautiful. I love my fairy-tale-princess granny. Happy birthday!
