My grandmother was taught to sew and knit by her mother which was then taught to my mother. Post ww2 it was a necessity to up cycle old into new and a way later to save on high street prices. My mother showed me the basics of sewing but I wasnt interested in it. Home made was something to be mocked for than appreciated. Today I payed a visit to my local sew craft shop to get some felt as I have been asked to make more cases and I cant help but notice just how much the supplies to make clothes etc cost now against shop brought item. Home sewing and knitting has become the luxury over the cheaper shop brought items. But its sad that the tradition of passing knowledge from mother to daughter has come to an end. On saying that Im going to spend a quiet afternoon tomorrow with my girls and a sewing box and see what we can create!
