My great uncle Edgar Morgan kneeling far right was with the Royal Field Artillery. He was invalided out early on and survived the War. His brother Freddy, 3rd Mons was killed. This article in the South Wales Gazette suggest he was buried by the Germans but his grave was later lost. Friday 20th August 1915; Information has been received that Private F W Morgan of 13 Shop Row Blaina and who resided with his sister at 45 Lancaster St previous to his enlistment, has died. He was previously reported missing.The following letter has been received from the Red Cross Agency of International Prisoners of War. It is our painful duty to inform you that Morgan,F W Private No 1508, 3rd Monmouthshire Regiment Company H is reported to be dead on the 8th May 1915, between Verlorenhoek and Freezenberg, and was buried there. We have no information about the circumstances of the death. The above deceased was notified to us by Major Dietrich Commandant of a Reserve Regiment of Infantry who assisted at the funeral, and who inscribed the above details in the service pocket-book of the deceased. the authenticity of this note is attested by Dr Dietrich, of the Inquiry Office of the district of Leipzig, himself, as by the American Vice Consul in Leipzig. the Service pocket-book above mentioned has been forwarded to the War Office.
