My hands hurt this morning and I didnt want to ride in the chilly - TopicsExpress

My hands hurt this morning and I didnt want to ride in the chilly air to take AB to school, but I knew it was good for us, and good for our pocketbooks, and good for the environment, so we bundled up, threw on two pairs of gloves, and set off in the nordic darkness. The city was aglow with brilliant street lights reflecting in the inky canals, and our breath made clouds of vapor as we rattled along Beethovenstraat. AB snuggled up against my back on the rickety Gazelle, and as the ride warmed our bodies, we talked of dreams and death, temper tantrums and tolerance. There is no question that we long for our boisterous families, our loving friends, and the retreat of Home -- but we also take time to appreciate this land where even in darkness, safety is never an issue; where Christmas lights abound but holiday advertising is absent; where a cold dark morning bike ride becomes another moment of joyful bonding between mother and child. Grateful. #projectexpat
