My heart hangs very heavy today and I’m filled with an extreme amount of sadness. I just found out that my best friend’s my family Dan Herbert & Lisa Herbert are relocating to another state as our demanding lives as active duty service members call us to do multiple times over our lengthy careers. Dan & Lisa and I have been my closest friends for over 13 years! It all started when I was a young Staff Sergeant and Dan was a Buck Sergeant returning from a lengthy break in service when he became my alpha team leader in B Co 864th ENG BN FT. Lewis Washington. We have followed each other over our careers and we have met in various countries when we least expected it. Both Dan and Lisa have literally been by my side through some of the most difficult times in my life and over the past 3 years the most happiest of it as well! Never letting me down, feeding me when I had nothing, and housing me when I had nowhere else to go. I have watched there children Victoria, DJ, Megan, Kealy, Jayden and Haley grow up all these years, loving each and every one of them like my own! Dan & Lisa have been my shoulders to cry on, ears to listen to me vent, my sanity check when I thought I was losing my mind, and my saving grace when I thought I was either going to jail, going to kill someone or literally thinking of end my own life! You both have no idea of the impact that you have had on me, my sanity and on my life in general. If it had not been for the both of you and all the countless things you have done for me over the years I would not be alive to type this today! It brings tears to my eyes and sadness to my heart that we have to say “See you later” (because we don’t do goodbyes) and all of this may happen before I return from this deployment! I love you all tremendously! You are and always will be my FAMILY! Life in NC will not be the same without all of you, but like all tight military families do, we will keep good, effective and positive communication, drop door bundles of support to each other needed or not, return to our ORP (Objective Rally Points) in various locations throughout the our AOR’s (Areas of Responsibilities) when time permits, and we will always regroup our team, consolidate our assets and return to our patrol base’s when both of our families missions are complete! We are and always will be one team! My doors are always open for the Herbert Klan, regardless of where we all might call home! I love you ALL with my entire heart and soul, you ALL will be dearly missed by me, Jacqueline and the kids! Forever Family-Family Forever (“FF-FF”) Your younger and taller little brother, Drew aka (Lil’ Chief)
