My hero Minister Yim Tae-hees bid for a solons post ended up as a failure plunging me and many others into a deep stunning sorrow. Many people here in Korea say he is the greatest politician they ever saw in the nations political stage-- of course, I am another of the same opinion. He set out for the campaign stump in a heavily penalized disadvantage-- I believe his party leadership was reluctant to groom him as another potential candidate for a next leader because he was at the center of the unpopular Lee Administration which was at serious odds with the incumbent president Park albeit he made an utmost bid to bring unity to his own party complying with all the humiliating demands from his colleagues in the party leadership. In a primitive political theater only Machiavelian intrigues and treachery are the currency for survival and prosperity. In this context, Minister Yim was too honest fundamentalist for the desolate wilderness of Korean politics where only rules of betrayal and treachery prevail. I was so sad and depressed at the result of the tallying of ballots. The cunning strategy of the opponent party I can willingly tolerate. What makes me so infurious and sad is the stance taken by the leaders of Mr. Yims own party. The ruling New Frontier Partys backwardness in its decision-making procedures does never promise a bright future for the rebirth of Korea as a true powerhouse on the threshhold of the third millenium.
