My husband has been a police officer with the same department - TopicsExpress

My husband has been a police officer with the same department going on 29 years now. Im proud of him and the officer he is. I want to take a moment and explain a few things that my 5 children, grandchildren and myself have done without because he is a policeman. Birthdays, all holidays, sad days, bad days, difficult days, deaths, funerals, births, hurricanes, flooding, graduations, school programs, plays and award ceremonies. He has missed so many things. Children sick in the hospital, surgeries, ball games... any and everything you can think of. Stop for a moment and think about how you would feel when a bad hurricane is coming to hit where you live and you have 5 children and grandchildren and he isnt there to help. To board up windows or gas up cars. To help secure what little we have in hopes that we dont lose it all when the hurricane hits and why isnt he you ask. Well let me tell you. Police Officers have to leave their families to fend for themselves because our officers get put on 24 hr duty days before it hits. Thats right. Our cop is at work helping all of you. Making sure they are there to help you with what you need not us their family and loved ones. If they are lucky the department might let them run home for maybe at the most an hour to help their families. What does an hour do and believe me its usually only 15 minutes and they have to run leaving everything for you to do because dispatch calls. You see our men and women in blue have to go to everyone in their city to try to get them to leave. Im speaking mainly right now about Katrina. Mandatory evacuations but did those people listen. HELL NO! So what was my husband and many other officers doing during the middle of that horrible hurricane with high winds and terrible rain? Ill tell you. They were going to your house trying to rescue you people who called 911 in the worst part of Katrina because your house was flooding if it was still there and you couldnt get out. So police and firefighters were out driving in that mess saving your sorry asses! After you were told to get out!!!! We lost everything in Katrina and my husband left us days before she hit and wasnt allowed to come home for days afterwards but he was there for the citizens of Moss Point! My husband and so many others have missed so much in the lives of their children and grandchildren and whats so sad is our babies cry because Daddy isnt there when they need him or just want him to see what they have done but children of police officers do grow up understanding that Mama or Daddy (their Heros) always have to help people because that is what they were called to do. The horrible things they see and the way some of you treat them is disgusting but still our Hero is there when you need them. So many hate them until you need them. Stop telling your children the cops will take them to jail if they dont mind you or do something you dont want them doing. It isnt right. The cops are there to help you and your children. Sure I know some cops are bad but in every profession you have bad people. For the most part cops are very good people and will go out if their way to help you and your family in anyway possible. Stop hating the police and take a look at the criminals. I wish there were no bad cops but Im not naive and I know their out there and I wish we could get them out of our departments but Im here to tell you that there are way more good ones then bad. I pray that 2015 sees less cops killed and more respected. The families of Police Officers all over this world sacrifice the one we love so they can help yall so please help them and stop the cop hatred and killings. #PoliceLivesMatter
