My latest thought on politics of Hong Kong and Taiwan, and in general, decolonisation and post-colonial statehood and nation-building: As political centre, a capital city can never breed a political identity independent of the national state. This is however different from peripheral regions, especially those once ruled by foreign powers. Bad governance may turn the returning mother-land into the new colonial master, hence, new object of decolonisation. Hence, Hong Kong cant have a replay of Beijings June 4th but it is possible to have one of Taiwans February 28th. 我对港台政治、乃至去殖民地化、后殖建国的最新思考： “作为政治中心，首都不可能有独立于民族国家的政治认同。边陲地区却有条件催生分离主义，受过外国统治者尤然。治理不当，重返的母国就变成新的“去殖”对象。” 香港不会有64的翻版，却有可能有228的翻版。 洪耀南
