My letter to WMC Chanel 5 news have always been good about - TopicsExpress

My letter to WMC Chanel 5 news have always been good about human interest stories which is one of the reasons I watch. There are many stories of the horror real people are facing if the mayor and council continue to strip city retirees of their insurance benefits. Some of them were talked about at the council meeting 7/15/2014. Real stories about real people who have worked most of their lives in very dangerous jobs with the promise of health care and a pension. You see the city doesnt pay social security for their employees so the only ones who have Medicare worked a second job in order to get enough quarters to qualify for Medicare so most of their checks are very small. One man stated that his SS check was just over 100.00. There are people who only get a pension of 2000.00 yet the city is dumping a bill for 1100.00 to 1600.00 for insurance on them. The remainder is left to cover copays for Dr visits and meds, plus food, utilities and the other necessities of every day life. There are real human interest stories! If you would go to the council meeting on line and listen to some of the stories that was told in the last two hours, you would hear what I am talking about. There are many more. It would be great if you would show one of these stories each night on your broadcast. Chanel 5 prides itself on its investigating reporting. I have some things for you to investigate. 1.There have been a lot of misleading stories regarding what is going on in our city with regards to the MPD&MFD. Both the Mayor and Dr Ford have been on different stations talking about the two million fund to help the retires who could not afford the new premiums in their transition to the loss of their health insurance. Finally at the council meeting last Tuesday Dr Ford admitted that this money would never be seen by any employee but would be used to pay insurance people to advise and educate the retirees. I did not hear this on the news but it would be worth investigating. 2. At the council meeting 7/15/2014 Councilman Strickland said that when the mayor refinanced the citys debt ( I think it was 2009) that the city ended up owing 25 million more than before and another 16 million would be added in 2016. I have three sons who are real estate attorneys and I can promise you that most people refinance to get lower notes not to incur more debt. I did not hear this in the news but it would be worth investigating. 3. In the middle of the flood that we had a few weeks ago, some public works employees were dealing with flooding sewers near St Jude hospital when they were ordered to leave that job and go to the mayors sons house because his basement was flooded. I did not hear this in the news but it would be worth investigating. 4. The reason that the mayor is cutting the healthcare is because the pension is not fully funded. I have not heard one news reporter ask why? It is simply the fact that they spent the money on other things and did not pay into the pension as they were required to do. It would be interesting if one of your investigative reporters would read the states letter outlining what was wrong. Healthcare was not mentioned as a problem. This is a side of the issue I have not heard on the news but it would be worth investigating. Thank you for your time, I you would take the time to go to the facebook pages, you would find people who could tell you much more about these things than I can. .
