My life is about to change! Im officially announcing my exit from television. Last month, I accepted the Public Relations Director position with N.A.R.D. (Nebraska Association for Resources Districts). The organization helps resource districts across the state make sure Nebraska keeps enough water in the state, conserves as best it can, monitors flooding, redirects streams and rivers, and builds bike paths among many other things. Really, the organization protects Nebraskans properties and the future of our state. After nearly a decade of working as the Channel 8 Eyewitness News Morning Anchor and television news reporter in Lincoln and Omaha, I feel now is the perfect time for a change-up. This has been an extremely difficult decision for me as I still love the news and am so grateful for the rare and unique experiences Ive received over the years. From covering dozens of murder stories, heated court cases, Millard High School shooting, abductions, abuse, big drug busts, tornadoes, severe snowstorms and crazy heat warnings to dozens of breaking news live shots, participating in funky duck contests, non-profit runs and fundraisers, and meeting inspiring men, women and children who have opened up my eyes to new perspectives and even changed my life; Ill look back on my career with pride. I truly believe I can help N.A.R.D. spread its message across the state. The news business is tough, but I love it. Im getting out so I can enjoy more holidays with my family, being able to take vacations during sweep months and of course, not having to get up (as much) at 2:30 AM. LOL! Im also very passionate about our natural resources and feel they are vital in the state now and for future generations to come. So I believe in what I will be working for. Nebraskans have truly opened up their hearts and homes to me with open arms. Ive never felt so much love as a journalist and morning anchor from my fans and the general public. Thank you everyone for your never-ending support! I will make this announcement on the air on Monday as well. I just thought my Facebook fans who have taken the time to follow me deserve to know first. Erika Summers
