My lucky bucket day…… I have been searching for an olive-harvest bucket for well over a year, I have seen them in several antique stores but the prices are crazy and I could not bring myself to pay their asking price. Most of these rustic galvanized metal buckets were used for to collect, clean and store olives. The numerous vented slat openings allowed the olives to breath. I love the style and patina of these olive buckets, and I always wonder what stories they could tell if they could talk. I all but gave up, thinking if I want one bad enough I will have to pay the price; that was until I stumbled across a place off the beaten path, I wasn’t even looking for it and there it was in the middle of the aisle, on the floor all by itself like it was waiting just for ME. I would have tackled old ladies and babies to get to that bucket, as I looked for the price I saw it was 1/3 the price of all the others that I ran across. I felt like I hit the mother lode, the jackpot, I bagged the big one! Some people will look at this and see a piece of junk, but I love this kind of junk, the old galvanized buckets, pans, the old wooden tools box from my dad, as well as antique wooden water buckets from China that I use, these are things that people used long ago in their daily life and I am honored to be able to find a place for them in my home and yard. I have dozens of ideas on how and where I will use my new find, they make a great container by the fireplace for wood or kindling, in the bathroom for towels, inside or outside to hold blankets, plants or flowers, the list goes on and you are only limited my your imagination. For Fall Im going to fill it pumpkins and gourds, for Christmas I can fill it with greenery, birch branches, pinecones or another little Christmas tree, they are great outdoors as well, I love their industrial look, you can turn them upside down and use them as a light fixture with an Edison bulb, you just have to let your mind’s eye wander!! Here are a few photos for using an old olive bucket around your home or garden, I believe they add an element of warmth in your home. Enjoy
