My mentor and advocate friend Steve Shank wrote the following and shared this video....he is so very dedicated to creating change and has now retired from 31 years of work. I so look forward to being a part of the future with him in helping to create change here in Sumter County and hopefully one day for the State of Florida!! Thank you Steve for all you have done and for all that will happen because of you dedication to advocate for the animals!! Lets Celebrate Shelter Animals For those who are new to our mission to transition Lake and Sumter County Animal Control facilities into a No Kill methodology, it may seem like common sense that animals are destroyed in our shelters either because something is wrong with them or because we simply have too many of them. The reality is that there is nothing wrong with most of these animals. Most are simply victims of circumstance due to our poor choices. Only a very small minority of the animals in any municipal shelter across the county are actually suffering, so sick they cannot be saved or so aggressive that it would be unsafe to adopt them out to homes in our community. It is in that spirit that I close out my time in New Jersey with a celebration of shelter animals. Shelter and rescue animals are not damaged. Theyre homeless. And they remind us of what is important in life. Make a difference. Adopt from a shelter or a rescue group. Help us advocate for change. Thanks
