My mom was always wrapping things in two or three plastic - TopicsExpress

My mom was always wrapping things in two or three plastic bags. She knotted them tight; press them to release the air inside And store everything this way. When we opened our school bags we had to fish for our sandwiches Through this onion-like wrapping, digging deeper into the plastic And one felt Jules Verne Centre of the Earth had taken possession of her mind. My mom would even carry empty plastic bags in her purse, Just in case, she said. And she would put them to use Way too easily, way too often And we would make disdain faces when she did. It is weird her fear of losing, Her fear of things getting lost, Things finding their way out of bags, cupboards, even schoolbags… Her fear of keeping and storing things just in case… But then... she had to experience life after civil war, She had to see people go, people never to come back, She had to dress herself with other people’s rags… And it was funny but if you listened carefully Her body had a maraca sound in it, There was a gentle rattling when she walked as if she was made of broken little things… inside. @Mon Roig Vialdoms. 2014
