My name is Amara Majeed, from America. Im a 16 year old highschool student, and a Muslim in America. I recently created a foundation called The Hijab Project. thehijabproject.org. The Hijab Project encourages young women, particularly non-Muslim, to perform a social experiment: to wear an Islamic headscarf, or hijab, to the mall, school, or other public place, and share their experience on my site. I hope to eliminate the gap of ignorance that exists between Muslim and non-Muslim women, as well as to promote the understanding of a growing and often misunderstood religion in America. My project has been a global success. I now use the worldwide connections I have made through my project to teach the english language to kids in different countries--Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Egypt and Phillipenes.
