“My name is Dave Morgan. In 1984, at the age of 13, I was teased mercilessly because I was fat. I never ever wanted to be the boy asked to play on the skins team in gym class because it would be too embarrassing. That same year, I started going to the chiropractor for back problems associated with being overweight and the strain that my belly was putting on my back. In high school, I went from 180 pounds to 265 pounds in two years after my thyroid died. In 1991, I had double knee surgery and the surgeon told me to lose weight or I would eventually have two mechanical knees. I have also had hernia surgery and carpal tunnel surgery, both of which were a result of my size and the inflammation that I had allowed to take over my entire body. During engineering school, I would drink a 12 pack of Mountain Dew EVERY DAY to stay awake. I was sleeping no more than 4 hours each night AND getting out of bed thinking I had to go to the bathroom at least a dozen times in that 4 hours SO I was not sleeping well, which only compounded the Obesity problem that was drastically impacting my life. By the BMI standard I was classified as Grade 3 Obese, otherwise known as Morbidly Obese or Deathly Fat, at 310 pounds and 5’ – 10”. My blood pressure for years had been 140 / 80 and my resting heart rate was 90-95 bpm. Never in my life could I say NO to ice cream and I would go through a half gallon every 2 days. Vegetables in my diet only existed if they were completely cooked to lose their nutrients and were limited to those 2 or 3 that went well with steak. Big Dave eat salad, Forget It, it wasn’t going to happen. For me it was a gallon of 2% milk every 2 days and a 40 oz. jar of Jif peanut butter every 4-5 days. In 2008, I pleaded with my General Practitioner to help me lose weight and his first recommendation was lap band surgery. Having been somewhat of an athlete in high school I knew there had to be another answer but nothing ever worked for me and for my lifestyle. In early 2012 my podiatrist informed me that my extreme foot pain was a result of having 3 ‘extra’ bones in my left foot and 4 ‘extra’ bones in my right foot as well as a neuroma in the right foot that requires me to wear custom orthotic inserts. Apparently I was born with these ‘extra’ bones but they were never a problem until last year as I am getting older. I thought there was no way I could do this but it turns out I was WRONG… The Body by Vi 90 Day Challenge has allowed me to reclaim my Life and my Health! During my first 90 Day Challenge I lost 41 pounds and am down close to 60 pounds today with a goal of losing 100 pounds before I am done with this leg of my journey. The next leg of my journey will be to add solid muscle mass and regain a body that I had when I was a much younger man. At this point I have begun to run foot races, swim and exercise regularly. My blood pressure is now 110 / 70 and my resting heart rate is now 60 – 65 bpm and I continue to add several years to my life expectancy. I AM THE FACE OF OBESITY!
