My news-feed is eerily quiet on the subject of badgers, culls and Bovine TB... Strange that, seeing as Somerset has now officially ended and Gloucestershire is still going on. Ill continue my searches and see what comes up... There have been no official statements regarding Somerset yet, other than we should receive information on the results within a few weeks. I wonder how theyre going to spin things? Defra have still refused FOI access to the redacted document on humaneness, but what we do know from the snippets of information we have received is that only a tiny percentage of the animals killed will be released for independent evaluation and those animals will have been selected by the marksmen themselves... As Natural Englands guidelines specify that non-adherence to the policy guidelines could result in prosecution, its a bit obvious that they will only select carcasses which were cleanly shot; something which makes a mockery of any independent evaluation... Other than that, these pilot culls can yield no significant or scientific data due to the lack of controls, changes in methodology and the amount of variables which have not been addressed. Its probably a good thing to note all of that now, as if they announce that everything went according to plan and they have established a definite correlation between open-shooting and a reduction in Bovine TB... Youll know for a fact that theyre lying through their teeth...
