My opinion is... Democrats failed to prosecute Bush/Cheney for torture/war crimes partly because of the fear that it would cause a political deadlock and that that would in turn extend the economic disaster; yes i know weve had bad deadlock anyway. Also it was feared it would end up being most of the nations business for years. And there was *no assurance* of success in prosecution as you can interpret the laws such that Bush and Cheney didnt break them in any truly prosecutable way. And it was thought it was not definitely doable so why take the risk of all the fallout...and it was calculated that having respect for the office was taking the high road and that would be appreciated by the American people... Dems probably should have prosecuted but it was not cowardice it was the huge MESS that it represented...
