My personal experience is that I meet a lot of delusional martial artist, so this quote fits only those who have a clear sense of their own potential and limits, I have learned that there always bigger sharks in the ocean and have to be humble as there is always someone who is better, thinking that since you are training the best style or have the invincible master at the top does not make you the best, somehow many believe that it’s like a magic power and the attributes that the man on top will be transferred to them only by training that system. I have been asked so many times by others “Do you think that you could beat our grandmaster or someone else?”, my reply was always maybe Fedor but I can’t say if I could do it as maybe I could get lucky and find the weak spot if it is a style that is not complete, but it is a loose loose situation, if I win then I would be banned from the system I like and train at that specific moment, or I will get beaten to a bloody pulp for my arrogance to challenge the grandmaster and will be used to showcase how awesome and fast I can get ripped apart. I have noticed that the vast majority only look at what the man on the top can do, instead of also at the even more important factor for learning self defence which is looking at how fast the student become functional to defend themselves.
