My reading list is all over the map these days, on the eve of starting (official) Nikoshi/Western General Group position. Post-Fordist Reader twenty years later seems so obvious now having lived through so much economic nonsense. Reading IN DEFENSE OF GLOBAL CAPITALISM alongside GRUESOME ACTS OF CAPITALISM and (one of my favorites) SOCIAL MURDER with a very different pair of eyes than a decade or so ago when I taught them regularly. I was delighted to find Lee Lee Kottner pushing this essay (motherboard.vice/read/endless-growth-part-1?trk_source=recommended) which reminded me I really need to look at CAPITAL IN THE 21ST CENTURY (Piketty) and THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING (Klein) means Im going to have a very very long January. Im entering the resource war (minerals, gold, water) as well as new media, electronics, housing, and sustainable energy sectors and I want to understand all sides of the problem; a praxis of upper management that challenges directly either the hypercapitalist model or the many state-sponsored democratic socialist approaches that also create new elites and trigger extraordinary downward spirals in local, regional, and national economies. Yes. I really am this exhausting.
