My reflection since arriving to the Tlicho gathering here in Whati: We arrived before noon to a clear blue sky and cool northern wind. We were welcomed and received kind words. The day was mild, the shaking of hands, hugs and exchange of good empowering words was present. The evening rolled in and it was near supper time when we heard the first few bangs of bear bangers in the distance. As we approached the nearby docks, more people were arriving. The canoes were coming in and off in the distance a young man yells We Made It!!! and just as those words were leaving his tongue, a line of men standing strong with their rifles fired off welcoming shots. The elders, youths, parents and far distance relations stand and form a line to traditionally welcome the travellers. This has set a lasting imagine in my mind and heart. The unity they so displayed for the young people was powerful, inspiring and very uplifting. This has been an experience worth sharing with the world. So, a few of us got the talking; wouldnt it be nice to travel our Trails Of Our Ancestors on the mighty Dehcho River?!? So, the Summer of 2017 is something Im looking into. Start from Providence and end in Tuk. Drum dances, hand games, feasts, games, etc for each community along this lasting river?!? Its an idea worth exploring. Anyways, the Tlicho have taught me many things, tonight it was how to unify and celebrate one another:D Mahsi cho to the Tlicho Government, the community of Whati and NCSNWT for giving us yet another experience to use down this journey👏👍👌 About to go play hand games, so have a great night folks:)
