My rhododendron bush by Terry Halsall. I have a rhododendron bush Whos now my lifelong friend , For I saved her from the bulldozer And a most untimely end! She clung to life so dearly When I dug her up in haste , With spade and pick and shovel Stripped down to the waist. I fed her with the nutrients She needed to survive, And gave her lots of water And prayed shed stay alive, Now she rewards me every spring With blossoms pink and sweet! And shares them with the birds and bees With nectar they can eat. I have a rhododendron bush Who blooms so bright today, And shes repaid me many times For saving her that day, For she takes me to the parklands In Ince around the time That we both lived together Her family and mine, She watched the games of football Of cricket and the rest, While we counted up the scores And decided who was best. She was there when I met friends Along the footpath In the park, And watched us play together When the gates closed after dark, She saw me meet my first love And the passion when we met! Now she is here to witness The love that we share yet. I have a rhododendron bush Beneath the Australian sun, Who watched us build a new home When our working life was done. Now we share our lives together By the river near the sea, And I cannot deny Shes like a childhood friend to me! She sometimes hangs on grimly Beneath the baking sun! But I will try to be there Until the fight is won! We all deserve a chance in life On dark uncertain days ! And we can show our gratitude In many different ways, All she needs to do is blossom To thank me for my pains, In my land of endless sunshine Of droughts and flooding rains.
