My s/o is a colon cancer survivor and has been for 12 years now ( he will be 67 in April). Thinking he had hemeroids he went to his GP. The tumor was above the finger wave. It was found using a sigmoidoscope in his GPs office. He was diagnosed with stage 3 cancer. After the extensive surgery, 2 lymph nodes were found to be cancerous. Fortunately, after surgery he did not have to wear a bag. He underwent chemo and radiation. He wore a fanny pack with a port and had chemo 24/7 and was able to change his own chemo bags. He went to radiation right before he began his daily job as a line man. (he retired as a High Voltage lineman for our local utility) He was a very very fortunate man. Unfortunately, the radiation treatment caused other physical problems in his daily life, but the alternative was much greater. Many of his co workers did have colonoscopys after they found out about what happened to him. He has been a source of information for other cancer patients that he has met. He is a very lucky man.
