My sincere condolences to the Shepard Family. Unfortunately I am unable to attend this service however I bid tribute to a very great friend whom I have enjoyed numerous fantastic and memorable times together. I will always remember Jonno as a caring, loving, passionate and larger than life person who lived life to the full. There never was a dull moment, Jonno was the epithomy of how one should live life. Whatever he did, he gave 100%. He loved his friends, had numerous successful business’ and was an entrepreneur of note, be it Cottonfields, the bringing of the first Hooters franchise to SA, his Fish and Tasca business’, his memorable “East Coast Radio Master Chef” weekly talks, his trips overseas to watch the World Cups and numerous other ventures, leave me powerless to understand how he fitted this into his busy life, however he DID and this was the mark of a truly wonderful and special man. Jonno loved his family and friends and these he had in abundance and gave so very much in return. Whether it was driving around in Umhlanga or at the Durban July, he would shout out your name from afar and have a cheerful and mostly naughty disposition, which was so very infectious. He was truly a wonderful and very special person. One or two special events will remain with me forever: One was a day at Crusaders in a 6 a side cricket tournament. We had a very good side with 5 guys, Bashy, Ross Veenstra, Alan Angel, Ant Hill, who all played or could have represented a Natal side, and Jonno. Whatever Jonno did, he did it with passion (AND VOICE) and gave 100%, he was a great team player and succeeded in everyway. When he was a wicket keeper, I was astounded as to the catches and stumpings he took, he made it look so easy (and made sure he told the outgoing batsman too) when he was called on to bowl at a difficult time, he took wickets (and told the batsman where the showers were) and when he batted, he helped us win when we really needed him! We won the tournament and Jonno was our man of the match! Jonno loved that day and excelled to the maximum, amongst esteemed company. What a day we had together!!. Another one was: Jonno was doing an East Coast Master Chef demo, live, at Kindlewood. My wife told me how she was walking through the street with a friend past the stall Jonno was talking at to about 40 people. To her amazement, Jonno stopped the demo midway, shouted out over the PA system, “hello , there goes my girlfriend, Mrs McGlashan” and then proceeded with his talk. That was Jonno, he was a 100 percent mate and friend, right until the end. I am priviledged to say I was a good friend of Jonno’s and I have learnt so much from his enduring qualities and his absolute zest for life. We have all been the better for our friendship with a wonderful man and let his memory endure in us forever. Jonno, thanks for the wonderful times together, that infectious and naughty smile, we will miss it forever….. and may you now rest in peace my brave buddy, YOU WILL NEVER WALK ALONE…… From Richard McGlashan
