My sister Randi is a physician at the Gundersen Harmony Clinic in southern Minnesota. They put together a wonderful project where they asked for words of wisdom on raising children from some from of their patients. This is the complete album of that special compilation. My sister Randi Berg is the photographer. If you cherish the wisdom of our elders, the sweetness of a new baby, the joy of parenthood or the beauty of faces worn by the passage of time, then this project will touch you deeply! Last fall our geriatrics P.A., Leslie Elsbernd, had a beautiful baby named Claire. While she was on maternity leave the staff of Gundersen Care Center in Harmony interviewed residents and compiled a book for her of the residents parenting advice. The result was so moving that I decided to take it one step farther by photographing each resident who had contributed and combining the photos with their words of wisdom. The result is called PassAge in recognition of a passage as a specific small piece of meaningful text, a journey, and the passing of an object or an individual. Since the creation of the book, two of the residents have passed away, serving to remind us that we only have so much time to glean these words of wisdom. The full set of photographs will be on display at the Harmony Public Library from April 7 to the 25th and at the Lanesboro Public Library from April 28 to May 16th. Please share this information as you see fit, to help carry their words of wisdom out into the world. I would be happy to share our project with other nursing homes who would like to do something similar! To see the full set of photos (18 residents plus baby Claire and Leslie) view the album which has been posted on our Gundersen Harmony Clinic facebook page.
