My six-week cancer-coaching workshop:- "A successful six-week cancer-coaching workshop was held at the Leukemia Lymphoma Society in New York City from Wednesday May 8th 2013 to Wednesday June 12th 2013. The group met once a week for ninety minutes during which time they provided support, encouragement, ideas and suggestions as to how each could move forward. Moving forward was our theme and each participant not only contributed but also gained from the experiences and knowledge of others in the group. Prior to the first workshop each participant identified a topic of interest for discussion as they move forward on their journey. Below are just a few: -Doctor Patient Relationship -How to Manage Family and Friends -Fatigue -Fear and Anxiety Upon completion of the workshop there was much good feedback from the group on the concept and format. Two that stood out and were expressed by all were: -Each participant said they liked being with a small group of patients all with similar cancer diagnoses. They found this to be comforting and helped lead to a better understanding of themselves as well as to the ideas and solutions of topics discussed. -All who joined the group liked the theme of ‘Moving On’ and worked to maintain that throughout the six workshops. As one person said so well . . . “It was helpful to be able to listen to others who are similarly struggling, and to try to understand their perspective on all of this, and the tools that they are using to maintain perspective. Their comments encouraged me to ask more questions of myself, and perhaps move me in a direction that might have prompted greater strategizing around peace, self-acceptance, or other techniques that I could use or improve upon to move myself forward.”
