My son, my son. My beautiful, bright, kind, spirited, generous, - TopicsExpress

My son, my son. My beautiful, bright, kind, spirited, generous, determined and loving son. He’s the light of my world, bringing joy that I never could have imagined. And he’s black. He’s black. No matter how I raise him or what education and experiences he has, he will always be treated differently in today’s society. Always. As a mother, my heart is hurting right now. I have known and tried to advocate for the injustices in this world, but Im embarrassed to admit that now I feel these injustices in every fiber of my being. I have refrained from writing anything because no words can capture the tears that I’ve shed in the past few months. Travyon opened a part of my soul I didn’t know existed, of fear and vulnerability for my son that I am unable to protect from such cruelties. Watching my former home explode taps more into that soul. And now, watching the video of the murder of Tamir Rice has motivated me to share my pain. I saw a 12 year old boy gunned down in cold blood. A 12 year old that was doing what most 12 year olds do, but for a black boy he was killed without any due process or dialogue. Horrifying. As a mother all I can see is that Tamir Rice is my son. Travyon Martin is my son. Michael Brown is my son. Kendrec McDade is my son. Steven Washington is my son. Roshad Mcintosh is my son. This list grows daily. occupy/article/black-man-killed-us-every-28-hours-police If you have a desire to understand this pain, I’m more than happy to have dialogue about what we can do to move forward. If all you want to do is to rationalize the actions against these sons, or find ways to find fault in how they behaved that led to their deaths, then I ask that you remove me as a friend. My love as a mother demands that I work towards creating a world where Hayden can be seen for his beauty, not live in fear of further injustices for the color of his skin. My hope is that we can all find the love in ourselves, whether it be our love as a mother, father, relative or as a friend, and we use that love to make changes that we will all benefit from. Because I know this to be true with every fiber of my being as well; Making the world more just for everyone creates a better world for all of us.
