My story for today is a glimpse in my life at age 14 in the summer. We lived in the country in a very old ran down house. We had no indoor plumbing and no heat other than a coal stove in the kitchen and wood burning stove in the living room. I was in-between the 9 the and 10 grade. The house had a beautiful creek with a small waterfall where me and my brothers would regularly bathe in. This creek became the focus of my summer. I would daily take a tube down the creek with a pillow case. Why a pillow case you ask? To fill with snakes and or spiders of course lol. As I passed the trees leaning over the creek I would grab the snakes who were sunning on the limbs and fill my bag. Then take the the bag and tube and walk back home. That summer I had numerous adventures in Kentucky with my brothers. I caught a bat in a crazy cave with my hands only to bring it home and have it die. It did make a cool skeleton on the back of the house when I nailed it there to dry out lol. I caught a copper head at the base of a cool waster fall. Several family members and I got caught at the bottom of a dam as they released the flood waters (wild). My brother Bill Stone and I had a run in with a scorpion at midnight (a story for a different day) lol. This summer was filled with one crazy day after another. I wrapped up the summer with my mom leaving my dad and moving all of us from Ohio to Indiana. We all lived in a trailer in the country near my uncle south of Metamora on Haytown Hill. I was just glad to have indoor plumbing lol. School started two days later. We all have those summers when we think back to them we think what a ride...well for me I have been blessed with a life of those. Get out and have your own adventure...they never happen from the couch lol.
