My thoughts today: Yesterday, before the parade began... I walked over to one firetruck and spoke to and congratulated Coach Palmer. Then, I went to the other truck, which was loaded down with players... I asked, Which of you lads received the All-State award? The young man crawled over the hoses to where I was standing... I told him that I wanted to shake his hand and congratulate him for his individual award and I thanked him for his role in bringing our community another championship. He said, Thank you for your service, Sir... Godly people have had a hand in his upbringing... Now I know better what my momma meant when she would tell me not to embarass my family... What we do and say reflects on our parents and those whove taught us our values. Another thing: Yes, theyve known since forever that they were going to pick the Oregon kid and I wanted Cooper to receive the award. From what Ive seen, they could not have picked a nicer kid if it wasnt going to be Coop. I believe that character played a large role in this years decision too
