My timeline is filled with dangerously bad tick removal advice. Can I just say something about ticks? Getting the thing out is not the priority!!! Its stopping the tick injecting you with more toxins thats the issue. Dont do anything that will disturb it like poke it, cover it with petroleum jelly, or put soap on it. All of this will make it dig in deeper and release more toxins. Get a tick remover. If you cant manage that, and it can be tricky with little kids get a can of Start you Barstard (ethanol spray) from a hardware store. Spray it with that for a few seconds with the little straw. Personally, I usually use tweezers but you need to get it on the first go, head and all and its still not as good as a remover tool. Or if its a fresh bite a finger nail under its head if that makes sense. Also, depending on the stage of the lifecycle, the location and the age of my children Ive weighed up leaving it in over the possibility of poking it and making things worse. Not saying that thats a great idea but after the 5000th grass tick you start to realise its not about removal, but damage control. Theres a lot of fear around ticks, and we have had some really nasty ones but thats no reason to panic and use Facebook advice on your children (except this, of course ha ha)
