My top 15 favorite oscar nominated films of the 1990s: #8 Titanic (1997) Directed by James Cameron Starring: Leonardo Dicaprio, Kate Winslet, Billy Zane, Frances Fisher, Kathy Bates, Gloria Stewart and Bill Paxton. Nominated for 14 academy awards and won 11 for score, song, visual effects, sound effects, editing, sound, costume design, art direction, cinematography, direction and best picture. A seventeen year old aristocrat (Winslet), expecting to be married to a rich claimant (Zane) by her mother (Fisher) but falls in love with a kind but poor artist (Dicaprio) aboard the luxurious but ill-fated RMS Titanic. I know many people are not fond of this film but I must confess that I love the film, from the amazing cinematography, the brilliant acting which made me fall in love Kate Winslet and see the great potential in Leonardo Dicaorio to the compelling love story and in the capable hands of the brilliant action/sci-fi director James Cameron.
