My trainer Juan Pizarro working with one of my promising young mares yesterday. This mare is about 6 months in to her training and is working confidently outside in full tack and about to start stick and balling. However Jumi believes that at regular intervals during their training the horses should be taken back to basics - to reinforce initial training, to make sure they have not forgotten the original cues/aids, and therefore to increase their sensitivity. Jumi starts all my horses in a Monty Roberts dually halter, but here he is just using a standard headcollar with a rope attached to put her through her paces and has gone back to 2 hands. My favourite bit of the video is the end though - nothing like that feeling of being REALLY pleased with what you have achieved.
