My two cents on the Bessemer Bond Referendum: I can tell you - TopicsExpress

My two cents on the Bessemer Bond Referendum: I can tell you firsthand what it feels like to have your community support you. I was in high school before, during and after the addition and updates in 1994. I felt respect seeing Mr. Gaiss out in the community every chance he got, answering questions and informing the community on the changes proposed. I remember the smiles and looks of pride on the teachers, staff and students faces when the millage passed. I remember seeing the effort and hard work fellow students had when they were helping move equipment, hauling building materials in and out of the school, and assisting the construction crew every free chance they got. I remember the band playing at the lighting of the cupola when the renovation was nearly done. I remember walking into the newly renovated school on the first day of the new school year and feeling overwhelmed with gratitude. That changed me. I felt part of something great, part of this community. I felt like they cared about me, about my fellow classmates and wanted to see us succeed. The community wanted to give us the opportunity to be our best. I felt humbled and thankful. It made me want to stay here and raise my family so that they could one day feel that same sense of pride. The time has come to vote again. The school needs information technology updates to meet the State’s online testing requirements that begin in 2015, security systems to keep our children safe, energy efficiency and water conservation, roof and window replacements, asbestos removal to keep our children healthy. Show your support for our children’s safety and future, for Bessemer Area Schools, for our great community. We have a chance, on May 6th, to change these children, to show them that we care about each of them and want them to thrive, and to give them the best opportunities we are able. Please vote YES on May 6th!
