My two new books published by Amana Publications have just been released! Here is some information about each of them. THE FIRST SIN: JEWISH, CHRISTIAN, AND ISLAMIC PERSPECTIVES Both Jewish and Islamic sources relate the story of the first known sin in the universe, i.e., Satan refusing to obey God’s command to bow down to Adam. In the present volume, Dr. Dirks explores both Jewish and Islamic sources on the first sin, compares and contrasts them, and identifies the underlying root cause behind Satan’s refusal to bow down to Adam, which was arrogance. Given that arrogance was the character trait that caused Satan to sin, Dr. Dirks next examines what Jewish, Christian, and Islamic scripture and religious writings have had to say about arrogance, pride, and self-conceit. This latter analysis focuses not just upon arrogance in general terms, but also on two specific types of arrogance, i.e., racial arrogance and religious arrogance. The book then concludes with a survey of what Jewish, Christian, and Islamic scripture have had to say about past civilizations that have been destroyed precisely because of their arrogance. A CONCISE INTRODUCTION TO ISLAM This small and cost efficient volume is the perfect book to give as an introduction to Islam to Christians and Jews. In this book, Dr. Dirks presents a brief, simple, and straightforward introduction to one of the world’s most misunderstood religions. The book consists of six easily understood chapters. The first chapter focuses on the commonalities that exist between Islam and the Judaeo-Christian tradition, including similarities in prophetic history and in ethical and spiritual teachings. The second chapter clears up prevalent misconceptions that exist about Islam, while the third chapter presents the fundamental pillars of Islamic belief and practice. In the fourth chapter, Dr. Dirks examines four of the major differences between Islam and Christianity, including the mission and ministry of Jesus Christ, the crucifixion event, the nature of Jesus, and the nature of God,. Finally, the last two chapters deal with “hot potato” topics. For example, the fifth chapter looks at the Islamic concept of Jihad and how that concept has been misunderstood and distorted by some so-called Muslims. The sixth chapter examines and clarifies the role of women in Islam and presents the evidence supporting the proposition that Islam is actually a champion of women’s rights.
