My uncle Murat Bozlak who was a congressman in Turkey and the most - TopicsExpress

My uncle Murat Bozlak who was a congressman in Turkey and the most inspirational person in my life lost earlier this week his 3 year long fight against cancer. My uncle grew up in a small Kurdish village with no external connections nor opportunities during a time when Kurdish people had no human rights or freedom in Turkey. He graduated from the Law Faculty in the capital of Turkey, Ankara, during times when his childhood friends and other Kurds were either farmers or in the best case taxi drivers or construction workers. Being among the very few educated Kurds at the time he has ever since been an important figure of the Kurdish political movement and a significant reminder of the Kurdish peoples struggle for peace and democracy in Turkey. In 1994 he narrowly survived an assassination attempt where he was shot five times in his own home. That not being enough he was jailed several times between 1995-1999, yet he never gave up his line that favored a democratic dialogue. He gave 20 million people a reconnected hope of life through his extreme faith in a democratic politics and didnt give up even during the most difficult and critical periods. He has been named the general president of thunderous times and has a big part of Turkey being a somewhat democratic country today. I will forever remember your bravery, caring wise, watchful eye and most importantly how you put your life on the line for your beliefs. Rest in peace Uncle. The heritage you’ve left will live on for generations to come...
