My views on the JCA20H: Its a great amp in stock form, although many complain about the fizzy overtones and flabby bass response. This is mainly noticeable when you are alone playing through the amp, but once you are in a band setting the rest of the instruments cover up these things. The drummers cymbals wash over the fizz and the bass guitar covers the lower end flab almost completely. As far as gain goes, there is enough gain to cover classic rock in stock form. Adding a tube screamer type overdrive can take you into the hard rock zone easily. More gain from the amp itself can easily be had (about 10%) by simply desoldering the yellow negative feedback wire from the 16 ohm lug on the 16 ohm speaker jack and soldering it onto the lug of the 8 ohm speaker jack. The lack of a second channel: No biggie - The greatest players of all time like Hendrix, Rhoads, Blackmore, Page, Eddie Van Halen, etc did just fine with single channel amps (Marshall Super Leads) for decades. Besides, there are very few amps that can get amazing clean and distorted sounds out of the same unit. Youll never get a Fender Twin Reverb clean sound (in my opinion, the best clean sound on any amp ever) out of any Marshall or Soldano. The reasons are many and one main reason is its a completely different tone stack arrangement within the circuit (it goes way further than this & includes different tubes, speakers, transformers, etc). Rarely, if ever, will you find an artist that on a recording or stage will use one amp for clean and dirty (other than your local bar bands) due to this fact. They have different amps dedicated for one or the other and A-B switch between them. The artists that still use single channel amps like a Super Lead have mastered the lost art of utilizing their guitars volume control to get their clean, rythym and lead tones! No effects loop: again, no biggie. Effects sound great alone in your basement, but on stage echo makes your guitar become distant & even buried in the mix. Chorus can also make it lose its punch. After market zero loss effects loops are easy to install and cost around 90 bucks or so if you must have one. I do mods and I love tweaking JCA20Hs, so why am I telling you all this? I want to state what an amazing amp this is for the money and how it will be perfectly adequate in stock form for at least 80% of people as is. Mods arent for everyone, but if there is a particular type sound youre looking for, these amps can easily be modded to get you there with no problem. Rock on Jet City lovers & thank you Douglas White, Mike Soldano and crew for giving us such an amazing product!!! :)
