My vision is for every student at Waikato to wish they had chosen - TopicsExpress

My vision is for every student at Waikato to wish they had chosen to study law. Too many law students go through the same motions: they come to class; do their readings and by the time their last year comes around they regret not getting involved. I want to hold quality social events that people mark down on their calendars and underline in red. I want other Law Schools to be contacting WULSA to get advice on how to create our unique sense of community. Under my leadership I will change the culture of Law School to one of engagement and inclusiveness. I will achieve this by taking control of orientation day and turning it into a social bonding event to encourage friendships and engagement. Subsequent social functions will be high quality and exciting to encourage growth of the Law School community. We need to introduce more events that cater to mature students and add to their law school experience. It is really important that all students are given every opportunity to engage and be involved. In continuing with education initiatives, I want these seminars to provide in depth practical advice that really maximise students’ chances for obtaining clerkships and jobs. To achieve this, successful past and present students will be better utilised and a senior mentoring program will be introduced whereby fourth year students are assigned with mentors from the professional legal field. By equipping you with these skills our students will be seen by employers as the people to hire. By building this kind of culture we can make Waikato Law School a unique experience that is envied by students across campuses. Through my past experience on WULSA and involvement in the faculty, I am fully capable of leading a committee towards achieving this vision.
