My week in Summary = Lessons in Nairobi City Early this week I passed two gated building structures in Kenyas Capital City CBD : One on mfangano street near the equity bank on your way to bus station, the other next to Jumuia Mosque behind the ICEA Building.... The workmanship, architecture and materials that went into these structures is monarchy type.. different from your normal buildings... I got myself thinking.. i have passed these streets many many times before.. but it had never occurred to me why these buildings never seem to have heavy human traffic going in and out... is it coz they are exclusive clubs? i wondered! aaaaahhhhhh they are actually Libraries....@ Gilbert Muyumbu hmmm They seem deserted - Ghost towns - nearly like horror movie condemned houses! Why are these places not on the to visit places for the members of the CBD? are they misplaced and should they be? Is it that most citizens (especially the youth) Tonnie Mello do not actually know that they are libraries? is it that their content do not resonate with the needs of the public?? are they now tourist sites hhmm i never equally see tourists visit them Hellen Gitonga-Muyumbu...are they now historic pillars and ought to be treated as so? Tom Osanjo, Tom Olali ....Are they meant to be libraries to serve the residents and visitors of Nairobi? who are the owners? are they government facilities? As the week goes am still thinking... i had the opportunity to be librarian for 3 years ...and within the Library as we would dust the gigantic encyclopedias and historic books we would grin with amazement Indeed my people Perish due to lack of knowledge .... am still thinking - is the intent of these facilities ment to remain historic only? can they not be transformed to knowledge centered within the CBD Dolores KukuboKhwaka Kukubo so they can serve to educate both the history... the current and the future of the public... someone has said before if you want to hide a secret or a dollar from an Afrikan, you put it inside a book!!!! I am resisting to accept this notion and thought but alas the evidence kind of lean to the statement.. we must change this... Leo Kinuthia Amondi Agutu.....@ Jimmi Gathu Israel Robert Burale....Hmm some has said of Afrikans aping the west.. we visit a book launch ... we are told a book is USD = 100/- or Ksh 800/- we walk away lamenting how we are being ripped off and go ahead to consumer in an hour roast meat and beer worth Ksh 3000/- he says no wonder our obese waistlines are more evident that our brains.... !! Hmmm that was my week as a concern Librarian !!!
