My wife and I are sitting here talking about our plans for the - TopicsExpress

My wife and I are sitting here talking about our plans for the next 1-5 and 10 years. We both had our final day Wednesday driving team. The wife and I have teamed for the last 12 years. Doing mostly AA/E and Armored loads. Its been very rewarding to us. When we put in our 2 week notice about a month ago. We were asked can you work 3 to 4 weeks? We did tell them we would help them out with 3.5 weeks, its not easy to replace some drivers. Good drivers are hard to find. The Vice President said it will take them about a year to replace us. He did ask that we look for a replacement team. They were kind and caring. Very interested in our plans and very supportive. That sure made this change easier. If you have ever quit a job you know it can be a bit odd. I will say after giving this company over 6 years going on 7 the last day went rather well. We turned in our uniforms, guns, belts, badges, ammo, IDs, keys and truck. We hung our with the dispatcher, accountant and the vice president for about 4 hours talking about the companys future as well as our future. Also delt with a bomb scare. It was very nice to have a former employer say keep in touch and we may have drivers call with questions. It really got me to thinking about how many make changes and burn bridges. Not really sure why anyone would do that, yet they do all the time. I knew I worked for a great company and I have recruited most of the current drivers there and will continue to do so. It was just nice to see this side of the company. As for me and the wife. The wife is DONE driving semi trucks. She put in her 12 years and is ready to go work in a store like Sams Club or Wal-Mart again and have a life. In fact she has 3 offers already from those stores. She also will be doing dispatch for Trucker Charity Inc. When she started driving it was only supposed to be for 2 years until we paid our house off. We found that with the added income our tastes got a bit better and it took us 12 years to be financially sound and debt free verses the 2 we planned lol. Not a bad place to be at 34 and 36. Myself, I start at Wal-Mart on the 30th as a driver. On to the next adventure in trucking. Little bit nervous. To many it may seem like just a normal job change. Well its not. I actually am making one of the biggest changes in my life as is my wife. We have been together for most of the last 12 years in a truck. Now, we will be apart only a week at a time. Many of you know how this is. Yet, her and I really do not. This will be the first time in 15 years that I did not park my truck and trailer in my driveway other then local jobs. That is actually an odd thing to me. I will be off every week. That will be cool. I look to fly home since I will be commuting 300 miles to work. I look to fly my self in my own plane with in the year. Finishing up flying lessons this year. Until then it will be driving my SUV home every other week. I do plan to get a small apartment in the area for ease of life. Finally working on the bucket list. I really think this will be my last job in trucking as well. Yet, who knows what life will present. I can say its damn nice not having to worry anymore. Yet, having to start over at the bottom at a carrier again. That sucks. Gone os my 5 paid weeks vacation, my home a week a month at a time, my 15 paid personal days and 15 paid sick days. Yet, I am young enough to start back at the bottom. What about the poor drivers at places like New Centry and so forth? 1 more reason for this change ; ) Now, I know there is no advertising for jobs allowed here so I am not doing that. Yet, if you run team and are looking for a really good paying gig with a company that treats you well. Shoot me a message and I will tell ya about it. Wish me luck and we will keep ya informed of this next chapter.
