My wife is an extraordinary woman. We live in the Byron Shire hinterland & it’s not unusual for us to see wildlife that has been struck by vehicles usually driving too fast on narrow country roads. She never drives by an animal on the road without checking to see if it’s still alive or carrying young. Last night she stopped to move a Bandicoot that had been hit & killed only to find two Puggles wriggling inside her pouch. She picked the lifeless mother up, brought her home, removed the two offspring from their now cold mother’s pouch & warmed them both with a hot water bottle. She called WIRES & spoke to a carer who confirmed she had done everything correctly & in no time she was driving them both to Suffolk Park to a WIRES carer who had a Humidicrib. They will be on their way to a WIRES Bandicoot Puggle specialist tomorrow to be raised & eventually placed back in the wild.
