My wife plants a butterfly and hummingbird garden every spring. She plants it so that I have a good view of it from my study window. Through the days of summer I’ll look up from my reading or writing and enjoy the birds and butterflies that visit each day. The hummingbirds haven’t visited for a week or two as I think they’ve started their migration. And up until a few days ago, there were still a few monarchs visiting the garden. Yesterday I saw one monarch - didn’t see any today. I suppose it’s the time that they start their migration to Mexico. I love the hummers that come to visit – creatures of grace! But I especially enjoy the butterflies which remind me that we will all be changed . . . that the perishable shall be clothed with the imperishable. “And just as we have borne the likeness of the earthly man, so shall we bear the likeness of the man from heaven. I declare to you, brothers and sisters, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed— in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.” (I Corinthians 15:50-52)
