My wife was telling me about a conversation that she had yesterday with one of our friends that is a teacher and it made me think about common core. The overall purpose behind common core is not a bad thing. My problem is with judging a teachers performance based on mostly just the test results from CC. To me that encourages some teachers to only teach the test. The particular teacher that Stacey was talking with is a teacher at Tennessee School for the Deaf (TSD). Why should her performance as a teacher be based on the same standard as a teacher without that challenge? For that matter, ANY child will do better in school and on tests, if they have a supportive family that makes education a priority. Some teachers have those parents, some dont. And yet they are judged based on what different children from different circumstances do on a test? Just my thought process this morning. On a side note, I shaved my beard off yesterday and now I feel naked.
