My wish for all my friends is a splendid 2015, one that is filed - TopicsExpress

My wish for all my friends is a splendid 2015, one that is filed with days of joy, fine music, good health, good books, good work and loving friends. I wont be watching that great crystal ball drop in Times Square - I dont care for such ceremonies to remind me of the end of the old year and the start of the new. Ive reached that time of life when time itself goes far too quickly and I dont need crowds to cheer it on. When I was a kid I did enjoy the cartoons of the baby New Year wrapped in a diaper with the new years number on it - and although I will continue to write 2014 for the next month - we all welcome new beginnings, the crisp, unmarked notebook ready to be filled with something new to learn, something to enlighten us and broaden our lives. The world will always ambush us with small and great sorrows - the losses we endure that are part of our human condition - I have had some wonderful friends die this year - but they left behind some great memories. I still cant help but wish that they were here to laugh with me at some ridiculous event, or lament over some shared sorrow. And I add to my personal wish list a year of good walks with Sam the Lab in Central Park, and another year watching my six year old grand-daughters lose their baby teeth and gain their amazing insights in this new world of theirs, and for the nine year old to continue her grand march towards maturity. I hope to spend this year with the family and friends I love enjoying their lives as they enrich my own. Of course one wishes for the ever elusive world peace and an end to cruelty and bigotry of all kinds - at least greater progress towards these goals. Perhaps too much - but what else are New Years wishes for?
