My year so far: Sudden debilitating headaches lead to a visit to - TopicsExpress

My year so far: Sudden debilitating headaches lead to a visit to Max Care, an MRI, a cat scan, and visits to four emergency rooms before finally being diagnosed with shingles – in my eye. The ER called in an opthamolagist who treated me for a couple of weeks She sent me to a dermatologist who treated me for a skin infection. She also sent me to an eye surgeon, who treated me for a staff infection in my eye. My eye surgeon did an amneotic membrane tissue transplant because of an ulcerated cornea. Eyes were sewed shut for about six weeks. Then eye surgeon did another surgery and pulled the inner lining of my eye down over the cornea to protect it. He sewed the lining to my eyeballs. Sewed my eyelids shut again. After the eyelids were opened up, and the stitches removed from my eyes, my skin continued to contract due to the damage from the shingles. The eyelid turned inside out and continued to pull up, so I was sent to a plastic surgeon who created a new eyelid from skin on my neck. This time my eye will be sewed shut for 12 – 18 months. Developed postherpatic neuralgia, which causes intense itching. I can’t describe how horrible and uncontrollable this itching is! The doctor said itching is low level pain and referred me to Bluegrass Pain Consultants (that’s another story in itself, but suffice it to say they are HORRIBLE-google them, you’ll see). I found another pain clinic with a good doctor. Pain specialist has given me four injections in my neck with a fifth scheduled in a week. Pain specialist is referring me to a wound care specialist to deal with the sores created from all the scratching. And that’s my year so far!
