Mysore Dasara 2014 - College Principals meet to discuss Yuva Dasara With the arrival of Jumbos to the city marking the onset of Naada Habba Dasara preparations, a preliminary meeting to discuss about the Yuva Dasara was held at the Maharaja College’s Centenary Hall, attended by the Principals of Pre-University and Degree colleges of Mysore, Chamarajanagar, Mandya, Hassan and Kodagu districts. Mysore SP Abhinav Ashok Khare, the Deputy Special Officer for Yuva Dasara, presided over the meeting. The tentative dates for Yuva Dasara are Sept. 27 to Oct. 2, while Dasara will be held from Sept. 25 to Oct. 4. Yuva Sambhrama, the annual event featuring artistes from various colleges across the State, will be held from Sept. 17 to 22 and the best performing teams will be selected for the Yuva Dasara. The list of events during the Yuva Sambhrama is as follows: Sept. 17: Naari Shakthi, based on the theme ‘fight against atrocities on women.’ Sept. 18: Environment conservation. Sept. 19: National Integrity. Sept. 20: Kannada and culture. Sept. 21: Historic heritage monuments and places. Sept. 22: National Freedom Movement. It was decided at the meeting that instead of inviting two teams per college, only one team will be allowed entry and those coming from distant places like North Karnataka will be given priority, considering their transportation and lodging issues. It was also decided to start the programmes of Yuva Sambhrama at 6.30 pm and urge the artistes to follow the timings allotted to them strictly to enable all participants to perform. About 15 to 16 teams will be allowed to perform in a day, with 12 to 15 minutes allotted to each of them. The meeting also resolved to seek additional grants to last year’s Rs. 46 lakh, of which Rs. 35 lakh was spent on paying honoraria and other expenses to the artistes. A valid point was put forth during the discussions by Dr. M.H. Kondarasaiah, the Principal of Government Degree College, Chamarajanagar who said that during their college team’s performance last year, it was cut short in between by the organisers though they performed well, much to the appreciation of the spectators while other teams were allowed the full allotted time. “Please don’t play any politics please,” he requested and urged that the participating teams be treated equally. Principals of colleges have been informed to send their programme list to Yuva Dasara committee before September 5. Yuva Sambhrama-2014 will be conducted at the Manasagangithri open air theatre from September 17 to 22. Yuva Dasara will be held at the Maharajas College ground between September 27 and October 2. Others present at the meeting were Nehru Yuva Kendra’s District Coordinator M.N. Nataraj as the Working President of Yuva Dasara and District Urban Development Cell Project Director D.B. Lingannaiah as a member. Other members of the Committee namely Mahadeshwarappa, Joint Director, Collegiate Education, Rangaswamy, Assistant Director, Collegiate Education, K.M. Puttu, Deputy Director, PU and Vocational Courses and Dr. Rudraiah, Dean, University of Mysore.
