Myth: Does raising cattle and producing beef have an impact on the environment? Fact: Everything humans do impacts the environment in some way, including all types of food production. The real question is whether beef producers are responsible stewards of the environment and whether people benefit from beef production. The answer to both questions is emphatically “yes.” Cattle producers are committed to serving as stewards of the land and protecting the Earth’s natural resources. Beef producers in the United States are global leaders at developing efficient and responsible practices. Producers implement soil nutrient management plans, use plants and fences to protect natural streams, use no-till farming, practice rotational grazing, restore wetlands and enrich wildlife habitats. And the fact is, in the United States, beef is produced in strict compliance with federal, state and local environmental laws and regulations. That includes strict regulation under the federal Clean Air and Water Acts. The bottom-line is: Consumers should feel confident that they can enjoy beef as part of a “green” and sustainable lifestyle. Photo courtesy of Dr. Ashley Stokes at Ponoholo Ranch
