N H ZUBERI KARACHI: Industrialists have expressed concern over Karachi Electric Supply Company’s (KESC) email to industrialists informing them that the company will carry out fours hour maximum loadshedding in industrial areas of the city due to short supply of gas by Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC). Expressing their disappointment over KESC announcement to carry out loadshedding in industrial areas of the city, they said that on one hand power tariff had been increased for industrial consumers by 50 percent and on the other loadshedding was being planned which will hit production activities adversely. They added that no industry could survive in prevailing condition of non-availability of power which is the basic requirement to operate any industrial unit. Former chairman KATI, Abdul Rasheed Foderwala urged the government to take notice of the prevailing conditions and adopted appropriate measures to provide uninterrupted power to keep industrial units operative. He said that it was the responsibility of KESC to meet requirement of its consumers who pay the utility bills regularly. Another industrialist said that KESC must operate its units on furnace oil if it can not get sufficient quantity of gas to operate its generators He said that monopoly of KESC has created all these problems and urged the government to adopt measures to allow other companies to install power generating units in the city and supply electricity.
