NABARD organizes sensitization programme on joint liability groups. GANDERBAL, JANUARY 21: National Bank for Agriculture Rural Development (NABARD) organized one day sensitization programme on Joint Liability Group (JLG) for bankers in Ganderbal district today. The workshop was attended by all Branch Managers of district Ganderbal from J&K Bank, EDB Bank, JK Grameen Bank, SBI, HDFC and Cooperative Bank. District Officers from Agriculture, Horticulture, Information, and Handicraft & Handloom were also present. The workshop was aimed at propagating the concept of Joint Liability Group among bankers to help rural women, small and marginal farmers, landless labourers and other farmers in getting bank credit support without collateral securities for undertaking minor economic activities in agriculture and allied sectors. On the occasion, DGM NABARD, Kashmir Region said that NABARD has been working towards Agriculture and Rural development from last 32 years. He said the formation of Joint Liability Groups is the need of the hour in Kashmir region as average land holding here is less than 0.2 Ha. He also said that credit delivery through JLG could help the poor in freeing themselves from the clutches of private money lenders and gaining financial independence. He urged upon all the Banks to work actively towards financing of Joint Liability Groups. District Development Manager, NABARD, explained to Branch Managers the process of formation of Joint Liability Groups in detail with a power-point presentation. NABARD is also carrying out sensitization meetings with bankers so that credit facility is given to poor people of society for their upliftment. Discussion on other developmental areas like formation of Self Help Groups, Farmer’s Club as a tool to development in farm and non-farm sectors were also held.
