NADRA set to launch new smart NIC for overseas Pakistanis in Europe.... Karachi: National Database & Registration Authority unveiled its new SMART National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis NICOP at a ceremony Monday in London. It is 3rd Generation Chip-based identity document built according to world standards, requirements, with over 36 physical security features and uses latest encryption codes making it safest card in the world. Pakistan High Commissioner to UK Wajid Shamsul Hassan said: “Smart CARD revolutionary technology developed by NADRA will provide great service to citizens.” He thanked Pakistan government for timely and critical step as it will help with smooth provision of social services, increase financial inclusion, facilitate with remittances to Pakistan, message received here said. NADRA plans to open public facilitation centers in London, Birmingham, Manchester, Bradford, Glasgow and later expand to rest of Europe, said Chairman NADRA Tariq Malik. These offices will operate as extended counsellor sections and approval for them already granted by Foreign Affairs Ministry. NADRA will launch Smart NICOP & Smart CNIC on Independence Day August 14, 2012. Smart NICOP provide 2.5 million overseas Pakistanis in Europe with priority travel, banking facilities, increased security and existing visa-free entry to Pakistan. NADRA plans to bring out number of services on Smart Card and these will be provided on availability. It is programmed with match-on-card applet which first confirms biometrics of user and then grants access to it. It is printed on multiple layers of polycarbonate material, each layer containing its own security features. It is securest in the world and protects data of citizens at every level. NADRA’s key concern was to protect public information and its plans extensively tested and approved by Pakistan government. NADRA staff will continue to approve, issue cards after documents verification, and transfer data to Pakistan in real time via secure encryption. These will be printed at NADRA headquarters and shipped to UK. No one other than a select number of NADRA staff will be allowed access to data of citizens.
