Unable to keep up with the car, Shane roamed the local neighborhoods. He found himself at a house of animal lovers where the family was able to detain him in the back yard. He was friendly, and well behaved. Unable to locate the owners, Shane played with the owners grandson for 2 hours until Animal Control Arrived. (The home owner was hoping the owner would be reunited with Shane at their facility). When Officer Austin Fetner arrived, he poked the dog with a rabies pole after backing him into a corner of the yard. When Shane attempted to run away in fear, The officer then brutally chased him from place to place beating him from behind without provocation. The initial blow to Shanes head was so loud, that the neighbors came out to see if the officer had shot Shane. There were multiple witnesses to the incident screaming, crying, and begging the officer to stop beating the dog who was running away the whole time until he could no longer move. Shane was beaten to the point where he couldnt stand and was dragged by his neck with the pole to the truck. He was hidden at Animal Control for over 5 days from his owner, even though his owner was there looking for him and asking for him every day. It is assumed that he was hidden so as to conceal his injuries. Shane was not seen by the shelter vet until 4 days after the beating. After the shelter was advised that the owner of the home where the beating took place had located Shanes owners, Animal Control called Shanes family stating that they had just found his dog (6 days later!!) Shane is a pedigreed show dog, however he no longer trusts humans and cannot be shown any more. His owners and little boys at home are devastated by what happened to their beloved boy. His physical injuries still have not healed and he requires full neurological work-up and treatment of damage done to his eye from the blows.
