NANDAN NILEKENI - GOOD MAN IN A WRONG PARTY? ------------------------------------------------------------------------ NN needs to be congratulated atleast on one count, that he has boldly forayed into a landscape where value driven men fear to tread.More so in the party of his choice which is intolerant of any body of substance emerging as a an alternate to Gandhis. It was a delight to see a young boy asking him a question on a TV show yesterday. He asked that in sheer intelligence, honesty and contribution to nation,Dr MMS was no inferior.Yet he was subservient to the family to the extent that even national interests got subordinated to their personal ones. What is the gurantee that NN will not end up as MMS.NN who till then had responded to every query with an honest flair was lost for words and betrayed a lack of conviction in his answer. Call it coincidence / an act of providence, but it is intriguing that every emerging young leader of promise outside the Gandhi clan met with untimely deaths.Recall the fatal accidents and ghastly deaths of Rajesh Pilot and Madhavrao Scindia. Two very articulate and missionary young leaders in Congress who could have been answers to the leadership deficit in Congress today.Alas, they were outside the clan . Infact this compelling inability to see any merit in any body beyond your circle is equally prevalent in other parties like DMK,JDS,SP.And all of them are paying a heavy price. To my mind BJPs only virtue is that it has eschewed such an approach. It has encouraged people like Arun Shourie who have strong national conscience that emboldens them to call a spade a spade even while sharing in a very broad sense the ideology.
